Although fuel prices are publicly available, comparing stations, evaluating travel distance and deciding where to fill up is often slower and more frustrating than it should be. FuelSpot brings pricing, location intelligence and navigation together into a single experience, allowing users to compare nearby stations, identify the best option and navigate there in seconds.
Unlike my enterprise work, FuelSpot is a personal product initiative that I'm leading from end to end. From identifying the opportunity and defining the product strategy through to designing the experience, building the design system and collaborating with AI-assisted development tools, the project represents my complete product workflow.
FuelSpot is currently in active development, with the core experience, interface and implementation continuing to evolve towards public launch.

Fuel pricing affects almost every driver, yet finding the best place to refuel remains surprisingly inefficient.

Drivers often compare multiple websites, estimate travel distances manually and make decisions without understanding whether driving further will actually save money. Existing solutions typically prioritise either maps or pricing, but rarely combine both into a fast, intuitive decision-making experience.
The challenge wasn't simply displaying fuel prices on a map. It was designing a product that reduces complexity into a decision users can make within seconds, balancing price, distance and convenience without overwhelming them with information.

Working independently has required me to move beyond traditional product design, combining strategy, systems thinking, implementation planning and rapid iteration to evolve the product from an initial idea into a production-ready platform.

FuelSpot was never intended to become "another map with fuel prices." Every design decision began with understanding how people actually decide where to buy fuel.

The product focuses on reducing decision-making rather than increasing information. Instead of asking users to compare prices, estimate distances and evaluate multiple stations themselves, FuelSpot surfaces the most relevant information at the right moment, making the best choice immediately visible.
Location became a core part of the experience rather than a supporting feature. Maps, search, filtering, station cards and navigation all work together to minimise effort and cognitive load, allowing users to move from opening the application to choosing a station in just a few interactions.
Throughout development, the product has evolved through continuous prototyping, testing and refinement, with every iteration improving clarity, usability and speed.

Designing Around Decisions, Not Data
Designing Around Decisions, Not Data
Designing Around Decisions, Not Data
FuelSpot began with a simple observation: finding the cheapest fuel isn't actually difficult - making the best decision is.
Drivers don't simply want a list of fuel prices. They need to balance cost, distance and convenience, often while travelling. Rather than presenting more information, the product was designed to reduce decision-making by surfacing the most relevant information at the right moment.
Every feature was evaluated against a simple principle: does this help users decide faster?

FuelSpot is primarily used on the move, making mobile the natural starting point for the product experience.
Interactions were designed around one-handed use, glanceable information and minimal navigation. Desktop extends the experience rather than redefining it, providing additional context while maintaining the same interaction patterns and mental model across devices.

The map is not an enhancement to the experience - it is the experience.
Rather than separating search results from location, FuelSpot combines mapping, station information and navigation into a single workflow. Cards, markers and map interactions work together, allowing users to understand both price and proximity without switching contexts.

Building Through Continuous Iteration

Building Through Continuous Iteration
Rather than designing the entire product upfront, FuelSpot has evolved through rapid cycles of prototyping, testing and refinement.
Each iteration has informed improvements to layouts, interactions, component behaviour and user flows, allowing the product to mature incrementally while maintaining a clear product vision.

FuelSpot combines real-time fuel pricing, location intelligence and responsive design into a single consumer-focused platform.
The experience enables drivers to search nearby stations, compare prices across multiple fuel types, understand the trade-offs between price and distance, and navigate directly to their chosen destination through a fast, intuitive interface.

A configurable enterprise modelling environment that allowed organizations to define business structures, hierarchies and relationships. This established the foundation upon which reporting, intelligence and analysis could operate.

Rather than designing isolated screens, FuelSpot has been built as a reusable product ecosystem.
A comprehensive design system underpins the platform, establishing consistent components, typography, spacing, colour tokens and interaction patterns that scale across desktop and mobile experiences while supporting future product growth.

The interface has been designed specifically for the context in which it is used.
Desktop provides a broad overview of nearby stations through a split-screen map and list experience, while mobile prioritises speed and simplicity through gesture-driven interactions, adaptive layouts and streamlined navigation.
Every breakpoint has been considered independently to ensure the product feels native regardless of device.

FuelSpot is also an exploration of modern product creation.
Alongside traditional product design practices, AI-assisted workflows have been used to accelerate ideation, implementation planning, documentation and front-end development. Rather than replacing design thinking, AI has become a collaborative tool that enables faster iteration while maintaining design quality and product consistency.

Building the product has allowed me to apply product strategy, UX architecture,
interface design, systems thinking and AI-assisted development within a single
end-to-end workflow. It has also provided an opportunity to validate ideas rapidly,
iterate continuously and experience the practical realities of taking a product from concept through implementation.
More importantly, the project reflects the way I now approach product design—thinking beyond screens and considering the entire lifecycle of a product, from idea through launch.

Every decision - from defining the product vision and structuring information architecture to designing components, planning implementation and refining interactions - contributes to the overall user experience.
Working across strategy, design and AI-assisted development has strengthened my belief that modern product designers should think holistically, understanding not only how products look, but how they are conceived, built and continuously improved.
That mindset is one I now bring to every product I work on, whether leading enterprise platforms or building products from the ground up.
